This year's Fire Prevention WeekTM (FPWTM) campaign, "Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire preventionTM," works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.
The Manitoba Firefighters' Burn Fund, Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs, the Manitoba government and the Office of the Fire Commissioner would like to thank everyone who participated in Fire Prevention Week and those who encouraged kindergarten to grade 4 students to draw a map of their home, showing two ways out of every room in case of an emergency, practiced their plan with their family, and then entered the children’s contest.
A total of 432 contest entries were submitted and one child from each grade level was randomly chosen and has won a $200 gift card at Toys “R” Us and fun, fire prevention material for their classmates and teacher.
Congratulations to the winners for 2023:
Even though Fire Prevention Week is over for another year, you should always make sure you and your family have working smoke alarms and a home fire escape plan that you practice often.
Get everyone in your home involved and:
The next contest will be held for Burn Awareness Week, for kids grades 5 – 8. More details on this contest will be posted in January 2024.
On behalf of the Manitoba government, Office of the Fire Commissioner, Firefighters’ Burn Fund and the Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs, we wish to thank everyone who supported and encouraged children to take part in Fire Prevention Week!
